Jorge A. Guerrero
Sergeant Major Guerrero was born in Harlingen, Texas, on July 1, 1980. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA, for recruit training in August 1998. Upon graduating from recruit training, he reported to the School of Infantry-East at Camp Pendleton, CA, where he earned the Primary MOS of 0311, Marine Rifleman. In December 1998, Private First Class Guerrero was assigned to the Ground Defense Security Force, Rifle Security Company – Windward, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, serving as a rifleman with First Platoon. During this assignment, he held roles as Corporal of the Guard, Sergeant of the Guard, and translator.
In January 2000, Lance Corporal Guerrero transferred to the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines, where he served with Company G as a rifleman, Fire Team Leader, Squad Leader, and Company Rope Master. In March 2001, Corporal Guerrero deployed as part of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) (MEU(SOC)).
In March 2002, Sergeant Guerrero received orders from the Marine Corps Recruiter’s School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, CA. After earning the Billet MOS of 8411, Marine Corps Canvassing Recruiter, he was assigned to the 8th Marine Corps Recruiting District, Recruiting Station San Antonio, TX, and served at Recruiting Sub-Station Austin (South), TX. After completing his recruiting tour, Sergeant Guerrero reported to the 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, where he served with Alpha Company “Raiders” as Platoon Sergeant and Company Gunnery Sergeant. While with the Raiders, Staff Sergeant Guerrero deployed twice in support of the Global War on Terror—once with the 11th MEU(SOC) and again with Task Force 1/4 during Operation Iraqi Freedom 08.2.
In September 2007, Staff Sergeant Guerrero attended Marine Corps Drill Instructor School at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC, where he earned the Billet MOS of 0911, Marine Corps Drill Instructor, graduating as the recipient of the Leadership Award. He was assigned to the First Recruit Training Battalion, Company B, “Bravo Nation,” serving as Drill Instructor and Senior Drill Instructor. In August 2010, he was selected to serve at Drill Instructor School as a Squad Instructor, Marine Corps Common Skills Instructor, and Leadership Instructor. In July 2011, Gunnery Sergeant Guerrero was appointed Drill Master for the Recruit Training Regiment, serving in that role until completing his Drill Instructor tour in October 2012.
In November 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Guerrero joined the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines “Hell in a Helmet,” where he was assigned to Weapons Company “WarPig” as Platoon Sergeant for the 81mm Mortar Platoon. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 13.1 as the Operational Reserve Force for Regimental Combat Team-7 in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province. Upon returning, he was reassigned to Company G as Company Gunnery Sergeant. In December 2013, following his promotion to First Sergeant, Guerrero was reassigned to Company E, “Outlaws,” serving as Company First Sergeant. During this time, he deployed to the Indo-Pacific region to support of Unit Deployment Program-East, with service in New Caledonia, South Korea, Brunei, and Japan.
After the deactivation of the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines in April 2015, First Sergeant Guerrero transferred to the 2nd Marine Logistics Group, serving with Combat Logistics Regiment-2, 2nd Transportation Support Battalion, Motor Transport Company “Blazer.” He later returned to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC, where he served as Company First Sergeant for the 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Company G. During this period, he attended the Air Force Senior NCO Academy in Montgomery, AL. In August 2017, Guerrero was promoted to Sergeant Major and reassigned to the 1st Recruit Training Battalion as their 30th Battalion Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Guerrero later served with Marine Aircraft Group-31 at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, SC, where he supported Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 224 “Fightin’ Bengals” during an Indo-Pacific deployment for Unit Deployment Program-East 19.2. After returning, he was assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501 “Warlords,” retiring in May 2021.
Sergeant Major Guerrero’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (with two gold stars), Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with two gold stars), Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Drill Instructor Ribbon (with one star), and the Marine Corps Recruiting Ribbon.
Sergeant Major Guerrero is married to Catheryn Clark Guerrero. They have two children: Jorge Alberto Guerrero Jr. (“G-Man”) and Liliana Clark Guerrero (“Lili”).
In retirement, Sergeant Major (Ret.) Jorge Guerrero serves as a Councilman for the Town of Port Royal and as the Director of Talent Management and Recruiting for ERA Evergreen Real Estate Company.
